How to integrate your external payment provider into Universal App

You can now redirect a purchase from your UA to any 3rd party payment provider

You may redirect a purchase of a collection or subscription to an external landing page or checkout page. Here's how you can do it.

Step 1: Set the redirection on the UA admin.

  1. On the left sidebar menu, go to Settings > Payment

  2. From the dropdown, select External as your payment provider.

  3. Set the currency you'd like to display on your Univeral App publication.
    ​You can only set this one up once before you hit save. So, make sure that you select the right currency.

  4. Add the external URL you want to redirect your readers to complete their purchase.

Step 2: Integrate the 3rd-party payment to UA via Zapier

If you want to unlock UA content once the purchase is complete, then you need to set up automation via Zapier. Alternatively, you can also set up their UA access via a custom subscription manually.

If you've never used Zapier with UA before, please get your public invitation here:

  1. Create a new Zap

  2. Select your payment provider and the action to trigger the automation

  3. Make sure it at least contains the email address that can be used for the next step

  4. Add MagLoft (1.0.7) in the second step, and select create subscription action.
    This will create a custom subscription in the UA.

  5. Select your UA publication and map the rest of the info

  6. Save and test the zap

The example above will work on a single type of subscription that will give access to all collections or issues within the publication.

Step 3: Test the workflow as a reader

  1. Go to your Universal App (UA) publication URL

  2. Choose a collection with a subscription, and subscribe

  3. You should be redirected to the External URL you specified in Step 1

  4. Complete the purchase using a valid test email

  5. Either log in directly on your UA publication or click the link in the confirmation email

  6. You should now be able to read the collection.
