The multi-level categories are perfect for publications with a lot of content that want to make it easier for their readers to find specific topics. Before proceeding, please note that the MagLoft team needs to activate this premium feature for your publication.

Creating Multi-Level Categories

  1. Navigate to Category Groups to create the main level of categories.

    • Go to Content > Category Groups.

  2. Create a New Category Group

    • Click on Create New Category Group.

  3. Enter Category Group Title

    • Provide a Category Group Title. Your readers will see this in the filter bar of the Articles and Collections pages.

  4. Add Category Group Description (Optional)

    • Optionally, add a Category Group Description to help your team understand what to include in this category group.

    • This description won't be displayed to your readers.

  5. Assign Categories to the Category-Group

    • Go to Content > Categories and find the categories you want to assign.

    • Click on the category and select the category group from the drop-down menu. You can assign each category to multiple category groups.

  6. Save Changes

    • Click Save Changes to apply the changes.

Preview the Multi-Level Categories

  1. Preview the Articles or Collections list

    • Use either the Live Preview or your live domain and navigate to the Articles or Collections page.

    • On the filter bar, you'll see a list of Category Groups

    • Please note that only Categories and Category Groups with published content will be displayed.

  2. Access the Drop-Down Menu

    • On the Category Groups, click on the drop-down arrow.

  3. View Categories within the Category groups

    • You should now see multiple categories within that category group.

  4. Select and Verify Content Display

    • Select a category and ensure that all the articles/collections with that specific category are displayed.

    • When you select multiple categories, the list will only show content that meets or has all selected categories. That means the more categories you choose, the fewer results you will see.

That's it! It's that easy to assign different categories into their respective category groups.
